A review (by American and Japanese physicists) of the electronic properties of inversion and enrichment layers at semiconductor-dielectric interfaces, as well as other systems exhibiting two-dimensional character, such as electrons in semiconductor heterojunctions and superlattices and on the surface of liquid helium.
