Soloviev (1820-1879), the meaning of Russian history was the gradual transition of tribal life into state life, the consistent transformation of tribes into principalities, and principalities into a single state whole. According to the scientist, the history of relations between princes from the Rurik dynasty can be divided into two periods: "in the first, from Rurik to Andrei Bogolyubsky, we see the exceptional dominance of tribal relations; in the second, starting with Bogolyubsky, is an attempt to change the state relations of the state, which enter into the fight against the family and, finally, triumph over them."
