Georgy Gapon - Creator and permanent leader of the workers' organization Assembly of Russian factory workers in St. Petersburg, organizer of the January workers' strike and mass march of workers to the tsar with a petition that ended with the execution of workers and marked the beginning of the First Russian Revolution of 1905-1907. After January 9, 1905, he was a leader of the Russian revolutionary emigration, organizer of the Geneva Inter-Party Conference of 1905, a participant in the failed preparation of an armed uprising in St. Petersburg using weapons from the John Grafton steamer, and the founder of the revolutionary organization All-Russian Workers Union. After returning to Russia in October-November 1905, he was the head of the revived "Assembly of Russian factory workers in St. Petersburg," an ally of Count Witte, a supporter of the reforms proclaimed by the Manifesto on October 17. In March 1906, he was killed in Ozerki by a group of Socialist Revolutionary militants on charges of collaborating with the authorities and betraying the revolution.
