On the material of classical Tamil poetry, one of the most striking components of ancient Indian culture, the influence of myth and ritual on the literary tradition is analyzed. The influence of mythological and ritual-mythological structures on the genesis and original meaning of the plots of works, their composition and artistic-figurative system is established.
