Famous military historian Helmut Greiner dedicated his book to the activities of the Wehrmacht High Command in the early years of World War II. Using materials from the Wehrmacht combat journal, which the author kept in 1939-1943, he compiled a detailed report on the actions of the operational headquarters in the preparation and conduct of companies on the Western and Eastern fronts. Assessing the political situation and martial law in Europe on the eve of major battles, Greiner cites the texts of Hitler's operational directives for operations Weserubunt, Sea Lion, Sonnenbloom, Marita, Barbarossa, etc. Particularly interesting are excerpts from the entries in the combat journal of the headquarters of the operational leadership regarding Hitler's negotiations with the commanders of the Wehrmacht and the leaders of the allied states.
