In 1920-1922, the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission issued the "Red Book of the Cheka" in two volumes. The first volume was edited by P. N. Makintsian, the second - edited by M. Ya. Latsis. For the first time, the book published numerous documents on the largest counter-revolutionary organizations and conspiracies uncovered by the Extraordinary Commission in 1918-1920. The publication was based on materials of criminal investigative cases - anti-Soviet appeals, spy reports, letters and other documents seized from the conspirators, protocols of interrogations of those arrested, testimonies of witnesses to the investigation, decisions of the Cheka's collegium and sentences of the Supreme and local revolutionary tribunals. Each volume of the book is provided with a preface and, in addition, includes essays that give a general description of the history of the emergence and activities of counter-revolutionary organizations.
