In ancient times, Euripides was called the "philosopher on the stage." Indeed, in the conflicts between the mythical heroes acting in his tragedies, the most important general issues of human existence and human morality are resolved. And at the same time, each tragedy embodies the high truth of characters, the truth of passions, which allowed another great Athenian tragedy, Sophocles, to say about his younger contemporary that he portrays people "as they are." All these properties, combined with the mighty poetic talent of Euripides, brought immortality to his creations - not only in books, but also on many stages of the world.
