The German fairy tale is a kind of literary genre that arose in the middle of the XVIII century. in Germany as a result of complex interaction with the European, primarily French, literary tradition. This genre played a prominent role in the development of German narrative prose. The beginning was laid by K.M. Wiland (1733-1813). Borrowing the traditional props of the French "fairy tale," Wieland ironically reinterprets and parodies its motifs, which sets the stage for its inclusion of philosophical and social satire.
