The German fairy tale is a kind of literary genre that arose in the middle of the XVIII century. in Germany as a result of complex interaction with the European, primarily French, literary tradition. This genre played a prominent role in the development of German narrative prose. The beginning was laid by K.M. Wiland (1733-1813). Borrowing the traditional props of the French "fairy tale," Wieland ironically reinterprets and parodies its motifs, which sets the stage for its inclusion of philosophical and social satire. The collection includes: "The Story of Prince Biribinker" by K.M. Wieland, "The Memorable Biography of His Majesty Abraham Tonelli" by Ludwig Thicke, "The Newest Fates of One Outlandish Man" (a sequel to Thicke's tale, written by E.T.A. Hoffmann) and "The Royal Bride. A fairy tale based on a real event" E.T.A. Hoffman.
