Based on a synthesis of materials from mainly North American researchers, a wide range of issues is considered in the study, use and control of snow phenomena. Processes of formation and evolution of snow cover, methods of measurement and processing of information on its properties are described. The effect of snow on the flora and fauna and on human economic activity, in particular on agriculture, is shown.
