A significant part of the eighth volume is occupied by the articles "Soviet Union," "Soviet Literature" and "Ukraine." In them, as in the previous volume in the article "Russia," archival materials were used, access to which was opened only in recent years. The editorial board of KEE allows itself to claim that the article "Soviet Union" for the first time clearly, consistently and at the scientific level, and, taking into account the restrictions dictated by the size of the encyclopedia, the epic of Soviet Jewry is very detailed, to one degree or another repeating the characteristic stages of Jewish history.
