The Orthodox icon in Russia was an illustration of the inner spiritual life of the Russian people, and therefore its place in human life was determined:... "where a Russian person lives - where there is no icon - there is not Russian." The writing of the holy icon was perceived in Russia as a special feat of piety. The first Russian icon painters came from a monastic environment and worked in the silence of the monastery walls. But only a few names remain in the history of icon painting. Their work became the pinnacle of church art. Admiration for the subtle psychologism, beauty and spirituality of sacred images of the works of Theophanes the Greek, Daniel the Black, Andrei Rublev, Dionysius and many others is shared today by us. Therefore, peering into the ancient faces of icons, we not only feel the prayer of the holy images, but also pay tribute to the height of the spiritual life of their authors.
