Proper movement along the spiritual path is a very delicate process, and naive haste should not be allowed here. Numerous side tracks, dragging aside, lead the practitioner to a distorted, egocentric version of spirituality. We can deceive ourselves into believing that we are developing spirituality, while instead, through spiritual practice, we will only strengthen our ego. Such an erroneous approach to internal development can be called spiritual materialism.
