The book publishes translations of the most characteristic and valuable monuments of Byzantine literature of the 4th-9th centuries. Most of the texts are first published in Russian. Research articles consider the genres of Byzantine literature (annals, hymns, epigrams, fables, letters). Their connection with the ancient art tradition is shown.
