During the Mid-Autumn holiday, Judge Dee is visiting a neighboring county along with a small group of prominent writers. Alas, he has almost no time to discuss poetry or calligraphy: a student is brutally killed, and a beautiful poetess is accused of screwing up her maid to death. The key to these and other mysteries seems to lie in the eerie twilight of the Black Fox sanctuary.
