Information on the operation of traction substations of electrified railways is given, methods for calculating short-circuit currents are given. Theory of operation and principles of construction of switching devices, rectifier and rectifier-inverter converters, converter transformers are described, their design is considered. Diagrams of electric connections and structures of traction substations of alternating and direct current are described. Principles of grounding devices implementation are considered.
