The book is a modern review of research on the problem of gravitational waves in general relativity. The central place in it is occupied by the presentation of mathematically strict approaches to the problem, primarily definitions and criteria that distinguish gravitational wavefields from all gravitational fields given by solutions of Einstein's equations.
