The second edition of the book is replenished with new documentary materials, mostly unpublished. An interesting letter from H. M. Rozhalin to S. P. Shevyrev. It contains the opinion of the remarkable Danish sculptor Thorvaldsen about Bryullov's painting "The Last Day of Pompeii." Articles that appeared in the Italian press about Bryullov's paintings and portraits are curious. Subsequently, many of these works were lost, which increases the cost of their descriptions. The memoirs of the artist M. Zheleznov, who accompanied Bryullov during his last trip abroad, are supplemented by notes that were not included in his previously published articles.
