Irakli Vissarionovich Abashidze was born on November 23, 1909 in the town of Khoni (Georgian SSR). In 1931 he graduated from the philological faculty of Tbilisi State University. He began to print in 1928. The first collection of poems was published in 1931. Subsequently, books of his poems in Georgian, Russian and in the languages ​ ​ of the fraternal republics were published several times. Poet-academician Irakli Abashidze - vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR. The book of poems "In the footsteps of Rustaveli" Irakli Abashidze was awarded the Shota Rustaveli Prize (1965), and for the book "On the Banks of the Ganges" - the Javaharlal Nehru Prize (1972). Irakli Abstaveli ashidze was awarded three Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
