300 years ago, on January 8 (18), 1654, in the city of Pereyaslav (now Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky, Kyiv region), the great son of the Ukrainian people, the hetman Khmelnitsky, convened the People's Rada. The Rada in Pereyaslav made a historic decision to reunite the Ukrainian people with their older brother, the great Russian people. This significant event ended the centuries-old liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people against foreign enslavers, for reunification with the Russian people in a single Russian state.
