In his Praise of the Empire, renowned economist Deepak Lal is looking for a system of international relations that would most contribute to the eradication of poverty and economic prosperity in the modern world. According to Lal, historical experience and theoretical models clearly show that such a system is the empire, in particular the British, which created the first liberal economic world order in history in the 19th century.
