The textbook covers one of the most interesting, artistically rich eras of the history of world literature, which covers the time from the 1860s-1870s to the end of the First World War (1918). Such philosophical and aesthetic trends as naturalism, symbolism, impressionism, etc. as well as the phenomenon of "new drama" are characterized. Reviews recreating the historical and literary process in individual countries are combined with monographic chapters on writers.
