Having failed to liberate Pskov in early March, the command of the Leningrad Front decided in April to resume the offensive in the Pskov direction. During the second half of March, the troops were replenished. Taking into account the accumulated experience, assault battalions were created, the interaction of artillery with other military branches was established. However, the offensive launched on March 31, after a successful breakthrough of the German defense, turned into a positional battle of attrition. Its participants, both from the Soviet and German sides, compared this battle with the battles fought near Leningrad in 1942-1944.
