If you try to call "the most Russian," "the most peasant," "the most reckless" poet, then the name of Sergei Yesenin pops up by itself. His life was short and bright; his death is still fiercely disputed. In the personality of Yesenin, perhaps, like no one else, all the contradictions of the era in which he lived were reflected. Maybe that is why, according to the philosopher, writer and poet Yuri Mamleev, "if in the twenty-first century in Russia we retain the same deep love for Yesenin's poetry as in the twentieth century, then this will be a clear sign that Russia is not dead."
