Rochefort's memoirs ("Les aventures de ma vie") occupy five volumes. For this publication, we took only, with significant abbreviations, part of the first, second and third volumes, covering that period of Rochefort's life, when, by the will of fate, he played a very prominent role in the social and political life of France. Earlier and later periods of his life are characterized in the introductory article.
