Historical Morphology of the Latin Language "by Alfred Ernu, as the author himself says, is a continuation of Max Niederman's Historical Phonetics of the Latin Language, known to the Soviet reader. It is built on the same principles and according to the same method, differing from the latter only in the presence of elements of comparison with other Indo-European languages, which Niederman usually avoided. The proposed manual does not represent an original study, being rather a summary of the views of French linguists on this issue; nevertheless, the combination of the interests of the philologist and linguist favorably distinguishes Erna from other authors of manuals of this kind, using data collected compilatively from other works and subjecting them to their own interpretation. He is fluent in primary sources, knows the texts well and knows how to use this material, if necessary, to illustrate his theoretical positions.
