The book contains articles and materials of the most prominent Soviet musicologist, academician B. V. Asafiev on the problems of folk art. Separate articles are devoted to folk music: Russian, South Slavic, Kazakh, Greek, Gypsy, Finnish, etc. The publication also contains fragments of various works by Asafiev devoted to the historical, musical, theoretical, aesthetic and sociological issues of folk music.
