In it, he put a list of bill numbers, writing them off from the wrappers that Marianne scattered throughout the living room - the serial numbers of each pack of hundred-dollar banknotes. Then he composed a note to Interpol: "This money was paid to the killers of Karl Langer." He did not sign the note, put it in an envelope along with a list of banknote numbers. As soon as this money begins to appear in circulation, Interpol will immediately start looking for who is spending it. Either they find Marianne or she finds out she is wanted. James was deep down hoping for a second option. Then she will have to lie down, having about a million drllars that she will not be able to spend. Perhaps she will pull them out of the closet and look at them. In old age, this can be comforting.
