His Holiness the Dalai Lama dedicated his life to contemplative spiritual practices and a deep study of Buddhist philosophy. Along with this, by his own admission, he always had a keen interest in modern science. In the book "The Universe in One Atom," relying on more than forty years of experience of dialogues with outstanding scientists of our time, the Dalai Lama convincingly shows that only combining the research methods inherent in science and spiritual traditions (primarily Buddhism), you can get a holistic picture of the world. Considering Darwinism and karma, quantum mechanics and philosophical insights into the nature of being, neuroscience and the study of consciousness, he draws parallels between contemplative and scientific approaches to the study of reality. This fascinating study was an offering of the Dalai Lama to his own mentors - spiritual teachers and modern scholars such as David Bohm, Karl von Weizsäcker, Francisco Varela, and others. In it, he paints an inspiring picture of a world where different approaches to people's understanding of themselves, Our Universe and each other are put in the service of all of humanity. In the past two years, Russian scientists have also joined the dialogues with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The book "The Universe in One Atom" formed the basis of the discussion at the conference "Understanding the World," which took place as part of the project "Fundamental Knowledge. Dialogue of Russian and Buddhist scientists" in the Indian city of Dharmsala in May 2018.
