Vasily Ivanovich Kelsiev (1835-1872), Russian revolutionary. In 1859, having arrived in London, he met A.I. Herzen and N.P. Ogarev and soon declared himself a political emigrant. Having dealt with the history of the Russian schism, Kelsiev published the Collection of Government Information on Schismatics (parts 1-4, 1860-1862) and the Collection of Resolutions on the Schism (parts 1-2, 1863). In the fall of 1862, Kelsiev left for Turkey, trying to exert a revolutionary influence on the Old Believers who lived there. The spiritual crisis ended with a transition to the reaction camp. In 1867 he surrendered to the Russian authorities. In prison, he wrote the famous "Confession," in which, renouncing his previous activities, he explained the reasons for his spiritual fracture.
