The largest monument of medieval Latin literature - "Chronicle" Salimbene de Adam - contains rich material on the international political, social, church and cultural history of Italy and the entire Mediterranean region for the period from 1167 to 1288. Special attention in this work is paid to the Crusades, the vicissitudes of the struggle of the Empire and the papacy, the Franciscan order, religious movements, social and political situation in the cities of Italy, various manifestations of folk culture. Due to the fact that the "Chronicle" of Salimben presents not only large-scale, epoch-making events, but also the fate of the author himself, a modest monk from Parma, his family, his city, the daily life of his contemporaries, their behavior, habits, characteristic features of consciousness, this work can rightfully be called a window into the world of the Middle Ages.
