The current edition of Essays on the History of Socialism includes a number of articles written after the publication of the 3rd edition (1926): "Historical Pamphlet Against Communism," "Campanella is a Communist," "Fourier's Sociological Views," "John-Francis Bray," "Socialism and Egalitarianism," "From Babeff to Marx." The articles are not arranged in chronological order of their initial publication, but in accordance with the historical sequence of the studied phenomena. The first of them - by the time the author worked on them - ("The Revolutionary Communist of the 18th Century") dates back to 1907-1908, the last ("From Babeuf to Marx" and "Campanella is a Communist") were written in 1933. Thus, they are separated by twenty-five years and the October Revolution. It goes without saying that in a book of this kind, complete unity of style is impossible.
