The book traces the history of macroeconomic science from the work of J.M. Keynes "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" to the present day. The main focus is on contrasting the Keynes era and the Lucas era (a period of dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models), each of which was dominated by different methodological standards. When considering the Keynesian period, the following theories are analyzed: Keynesian macroeconomics, monetarism, non-equilibrium economics (Patinkin, Leyonhufwood), non-Walras equilibrium models, as well as the models of the new Keynesians of the first generation. In the period of modeling dynamic stochastic general equilibrium, three stages are distinguished: the new classical macroeconomic theory (Lucas), modeling of real business cycles and models of new Keynesians of the second generation. The book also reviews several works presenting alternatives to Lucas' macroeconomic theory. Although this work uses an analytical approach, Michel de Frey focuses on the content side and critically rethinks the models studied. The book is written in a living language and is recommended for use as a teaching aid.
