Intellectual biography of S. N. Bulgakov (1871-1944) in the study of Ekaterina Evtukhova becomes a prism through which the era of the Silver Age in Russia is recreated. The son of a provincial priest, Bulgakov became a prominent "legal Marxist," and later a religious philosopher and finally the largest Orthodox theologian.
