Monograph of Doctor of Historical Sciences A.I. Sidorov is the first study of the historical culture of the Franks in the Carolingian era (VIII-X centuries) in Russian science. The focus of the author is the sum of historical knowledge available to the Franks, the sources of the formation of this knowledge, the methods of their fixation and translation, techniques and methods of their development and further use. A special section of the book is devoted to the study of reading practices. This problem is considered for the first time in world science based on marginalia - readers' litters in the margins of medieval manuscripts.
