The subject of the book is a man in the emblem of the XVI - the first half of the XVII centuries. Its structure was determined by the metaphor of the soul-body. The first section deals with metaphors through which the emblematic reflects the human soul as a system of meanings; in the second, on the use of the human body as an emblematic language. The book includes a Featured Emblems app. 39 emblems become the subject of multidimensional interpretation. The texts of emblems and mottos were first translated into Russian by A.E. Makhov. By the will of the author, all 360 illustrations of the main part of the book are presented on the insert. These are more than 320 emblems taken from 67 books created by 37 authors of the 16th-17th centuries; they are accompanied by visual parallels from the art of antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Baroque, including photographs taken by A.E. Makhov. All illustrations are associated with text.
