In this monograph, the relationship between Pushkin and Emperor Nicholas I is considered exclusively on a documentary basis. These are chronologically extracted from the poet's correspondence with friends, acquaintances and officials, containing references to Nicholas I, as well as extracts from Pushkin's diaries, chosen on the same principle. In addition, the work uses such historical documents as "The Process of the Decembrists," "Extracts from the letters of Count Alexander Khristoforovich Benckendorf to Emperor Nicholas I about Pushkin," "Affairs of the III Branch of his own E. I. V. Chancellery about A. S. Pushkin," "Testament of Nicholas I to his son."
