This edition presents outstanding Armenian poets of the XIX - early XX centuries. The Russian reader is familiar with most of these poets from Valery Bryusov's famous anthology "Poetry of Armenia from ancient times to the present day..." (M., 1916). According to Bryusov, these authors "had no right to be only artists: the position of the homeland obliged them to the same extent to be tribunes,... to awaken popular identity,... to heal the centuries-old wounds of the nation as much as possible, to strengthen the forces in it to fight and to maintain faith in a better future..." Such prominent poets as Petros Duryan, Vahan Tekeyan, Daniel Varuzhan, Siamanto, Misak Metsarenz, Ruben Sevak, for the first time appear before the All-Union reader in all the ideological, thematic and genre richness of their original work. In addition to the well-known translations of such masters as V. Bryusov, K. Balmont, S. Shervinsky, N. Tikhonov, P. Antokolsky and others, the collection for the first time publishes the works of modern Moscow, Leningrad and Yerevan translators.
