The main properties of electromagnetic waves propagating in various media are described. The laws of propagation of electromagnetic waves of the visible range, that is, the most important optical phenomena, are considered. The explanation of the experimental laws established for electromagnetic waves is given on the basis of an analysis of solutions of Maxwell's equations in the framework of classical electrodynamics.
