The book is dedicated to country estates and dachas belonging to St. Petersburg intellectuals of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It was in country estates, and not at social balls or at official receptions, that poets, artists, scientists and statesmen could communicate with each other without interference, argue, work fruitfully, enjoy the beauty of nature.
