A biographical sketch about the life and scientific activity of Alexander Petrovich Karpinsky, the long-term president of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, will acquaint our students with a wonderful scientist, the founder of knowledge about the geological composition and structure of the vast territory of our Motherland, about its fossil wealth, providing the mining industry with such necessary substances as coal, oil, various ores, colored and precious stones.
