"Notes" concern the events of 1806-1807. In 1806, L. Bennigsen defeated the French at Pultusk. On January 26, 1807, already being commander in chief, he restrained the pressure of the French army, led by Napoleon himself, in a bloody battle at Preisisch-Eylau, in the spring of that year, he defeated Marshal Ney at Guttstadt, and then rebuffed Napoleon at Heilsberg, but he himself was defeated in the battle of Friedland. The memoirs of the general are not an attempt to justify himself for the lost campaign, and a thorough report on the past events of one of the most knowledgeable people in this matter.
