After the works of Sobolevsky, Pogodin, Shakhmatov, not a single monograph was published in Russian linguistics devoted to the problem of the origin of the Slavs, Slavic languages ​ ​ in general and the Eastern Slavs and the Old Russian language in particular. The issues of ethnogenesis of the Slavs have become an almost undivided monopoly of archaeologists, although in essence they are primarily linguistic. Soviet archaeologists have achieved very great success, they have done a lot to illuminate East Slavic antiquities, their achievements are indisputable. Nevertheless, these achievements alone cannot solve the problem of the origin of the Slavs.
