This book is the second volume of the five-volume edition of The Big Strategy, 1939-1945, which is part of the 118-volume British official History of the Second World War. Nevertheless, this work is in the nature of a completely independent historical study. The abundance of facts and little-known but important documents of those years distinguishes this volume from the works of Soviet military historiographers.
