Published by the author for the first time in 1946, it has since not only been reprinted several times in German, but has also been translated into English, Spanish, Italian, Romanian and other languages ​ ​ and has caused a lively discussion in criticism and scientific literature that has not faded until now. In Mimesis, the author rose high above the usual horizon of bourgeois philological science of his time, and he managed to create a book that can rightfully be considered as one of the largest in terms of coverage of material, the most theoretically valuable and broad in raising the issue of works in progressive bourgeois aesthetics and literary criticism of the 20th century.
