The textbook contains a brief history of the development of science and technology, the statement of the scientific and technical problem and the stages of research work, design and research tasks arising from the synthesis of complex technical systems. A hierarchical system of models for design and research works, methods of accounting for uncertain factors in the synthesis of a technical system are presented.
