From 1923 to 1928, the outstanding Russian artist N.K. Roerich made an unprecedented trip to Asia, having traveled more than 25 thousand kilometers through lifeless deserts and mountains with passes up to six thousand meters high. Along the way, he studied ancient cultural monuments in India, China, Mongolia and other countries. All this is described in diary entries. A peculiar and colorful narrative is complemented by reproductions of paintings by N.K. Roerich.
